Governor Bose shifted to Apollo hospital after condition worsens

West Bengal Governor C V Ananda Bose was shifted from the Eastern Command Hospital to a private medical facility along the Eastern Metropolitan Bypass on Tuesday for a fresh round of medical investigations. A senior Raj Bhawan official confirmed that the Governor’s condition was stable at the time of transfer. The move was made as doctors prescribed advanced tests which are to be conducted at the private hospital.

The Governor had been admitted to the Eastern Command Hospital in Alipore on Monday morning after experiencing chest discomfort and pain. He was taken to the hospital around 10 a.m. and underwent several diagnostic procedures including ECG and echocardiogram. Doctors responded promptly to the symptoms, and multiple rounds of pathological and radiological tests were carried out during his stay.

According to Raj Bhawan sources, Bose had reported chest congestion late Saturday night after returning from a visit to riot-affected areas of Murshidabad district. He had also visited a relief camp in adjoining Malda district, where people displaced by the violence are currently housed. Following his return, emergency medical assistance was provided at Raj Bhawan by Prof (Dr) Saroj Mondal, a senior cardiologist from SSKM Hospital. Dr Mondal stabilized his condition before recommending admission to the military hospital.

Discussions regarding the Governor’s treatment involved consultations between doctors at the Command Hospital and cardiothoracic experts from a leading private hospital on the EM Bypass. Sources stated that some of these specialists also visited the Governor to assess his condition directly. While there has been no confirmation of surgical intervention, reports indicated that bypass surgery may be considered depending on the outcome of ongoing tests.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee visited Governor Bose at the Command Hospital on Monday before leaving for Salboni in Paschim Medinipur. “I visited the Governor at the Command Hospital since he fell sick suddenly. I have directed my chief secretary to take necessary steps in this regard,” she said before departing from Dumurjola helipad in Howrah. The Governor had earlier announced he would send a detailed report on the Murshidabad situation to the Union government and discuss the matter with the Chief Minister.
